Jagannath Jain College, a co-educational degree college was established in March 1960 by some eminent personalities interested in the social and educational development of the backward region of koderma and its adjoining areas. An enlightened person, Late Jagannath Jain of Jhumri Telaiya was the biggest contributor in the establishment of the college. Hence, the college was named after him. Late R.S. Bajpai, a professor and retired army officer, famous for his honesty, discipline and academic interest was the first Principal of J.J.College, Jhumri Telaiya who inculcated a sense of high ideas in the students of the college right from the very beginning. The college was initially affiliated up to degree level in Arts in 1960 and later on granted affiliation in Commerce & Science from 1976-78. The college became a constituent unit of Ranchi University in 1977 and was duly registered under section 2f &12Bof the UGC Act in 1983 & now it has been accredited by NAAC with B Grade. The beautiful campus of J.J.College lies between Jhumri Telaiya township and Koderma on Ranchi- Patna Road i.e. NH33. It consists of 17.11 acres of land and is at a distance of about 60 km from the Vinoba Bhave University Campus at Hazaribag. The college has well qualified & experienced faculty members who ensure students' satisfaction in the thrust for knowledge.

Now, the college is a constituent unit of Vinoba Bhave University & it has been accredited by NAAC with B Grade.

Principal Message


The college is imparting highereducation from Graduate to post Graduate level (History & Commerce) Bachelor’s Degree (Hons./Gen.) level in all the streams such as Arts, Science, Commerce and Education self-Finance Courses such as B.Ed., BCA, have been running since 2005 for benefit of students. Study Centre of IGNOU for U.G. /P.G., Management Courses & Study Centre of Nalanda Open University is also running as extended opportunity and facility for students.

The College takes special care for the personality development of the students. For this, the institution will be providing ample opportunities by way of involving them in various Social, Cultural & Literary activities besides N.C.C., N.S.S. & Sports. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited as the institution has a reach legacy of discipline and dignity.

Lastly I extend my sincere thanks to all students, parents, professors, lecturers, staff members & non-teaching staffs who helped college in achieving its vision.

Our Campus , Facilities & Features

Our Campus

The present campus ofthe college is spread over 17.11 Acres of land in the prime location of Jhumri Telaiya, Koderma, Jharkhand just side by N.H. 33. The campus is surrounded by a large number of trees on its periphery. A host of buildings such as Main building, Science Block, Arts Block, Administrative Block, B.Ed. Building,BCA Block, Multipurpose Building, Library building, Hostel for OBC and SC/ST & Minority students and Playground are situated in the campus which caters to the needs and requirement of the students. The campus has NSS Garden and B.Ed. Garden. The college playground provides facilities for Athletic, Football, Cricket, and VolleyBall. A Badminton & Basket Ball court is also situated in the campus. The campus also hosts Study Centre of IGNOU, andNalanda Open University and a Guest House.

Another piece of land of this Institution about 20 Acres is located in Bishunpur Road, Jhumri Telaiya. The proposal and future plan to develop the second campus of the college on this piece of land is under process.

Ragging free Campus

Ragging on the college campus is strictly prohibited. Information that ragging is a cognizable offence is conveyed to the student through notice board, prospectus & undertaking at the time of admission. Anti-ragging cell has been formed in the college to look after the problem and its remedies.
